Every child growing up in our corner of the world deserves a start. At the Durango Winter Sports Foundation, we are passionate about local kids doing great things. We make this happen by offering a level playing field for Alpine, Nordic and Freestyle skiers from many walks of life.
With community support, we provide the necessary coaching and training each year for youth athletes. Scholarships are available when needed. Many are developing skiers and some are elite athletes. Everyone however, gets his or her chance in the starting gate.
Youth programs supported by DWSF inspire fun, fitness, sportsmanship and personal achievement from children who are just developing their skills to athletes with high level aspiration for their sport.
Participating clubs offer a variety of athletic opportunities that meet the talents, interests and needs of the children in the Four Corners region. Click on “Teams” at the top of the page to learn more about various disciplines and each team’s compete and non-compete opportunities.
DWSF is a not for profit organization representing over 200 young skiers in Durango, CO and the surrounding area.

Durango Winter Sports Foundation Gala
The Gala officially kicks off the winter sports season. The main focus is to honor our traditions and recognize those who have advanced our mission of developing ethical, respectful, and disciplined individuals. This year the Durango Winter Sports Foundation is proud to induct Tracy Barnes and Lanny Barnes into the Hall of Fame as they epitomize our core values. Home town Durango twin sisters that earned trips to the Olympic Games in the sport of Biathlon, this dynamic duo has become iconic role models for our youth. Not only have they upheld the highest standards in athletics, they have shown that camaraderie, sportsmanship and sisterhood come first.
This year this season opening Gala will be held at the new Purgatory Sports Building on Main Street in Durango and offers attendees an opportunity to socialize and discuss the upcoming ski season. Stories are shared from the previous years, local dignitaries are honored and it gives the skiing community a gathering to celebrate the coming season. The Gala is the largest fund raising event of the year for the Durango Winter Sports Foundation with over 200 people attending.
